Winner is not my choice
Oct 20th, 2007 by Bert
Lilac Moon ran well enough in third last night. She handled the surface well and was running on again at the finish - she was drawn 13 of 13 which is a tough place to be at Wolver and she may just have needed it.
In the Dewhurst today I can’t see past New Approach. He’ll handle the ground and Jim Bolger wouldn’t be running him if he wasn’t confident. The 2:30 at Catterick looks to be between President Elect and Not My Choice. The latter, ridden by a champion elect, is my choice, and I may also do a S/F.

What a shame Winker Watson hasn’t been able to take on the best of the season’s two-year-olds in the big Autumn races. The winner today is clearly an exceptional horse. tough as well as classy, and I was pleased to get the forecast up with Fast Company. although as I’d backed that one to win at 14-1 it would have helped if the result was the other way round. I think Fast Company lost the race through inexperience and he was throwing his head up as they entered the dip and he could be a real threat come the Guineas.
But for me Winker Watson remains my great ante post hope for the race and I wish you all the best for his progress over the winter.
