Best of all time
May 30th, 2009 by Bert
Four runners today - Major Eazy goes at Goodwood, Marine Boy goes at York and both Pansy Potter and Bea Menace go at Newbury tonight.
I’ll be disappointed if I don’t get something out of today’s lot. Major Eazy carries top weight in a handicap - he’s big enough to shoulder top weight and there’s a general feeling that he’s the type to go well first time up. The form of Marine Boy’s last race has been franked, with the winner winning again on Thursday night. Both are big prices and I’d expect them both to go better than their prices suggest. I think Pansy Potter is on a good mark and will go well.
There were a couple of second placers from the last Newbury meet I attended coming out today - Alrasm at Donny and Rakeen at Goodwood. They should both go well. I’ll save the nap for Mr Macattack at Doncaster - I thought he was unlucky last time and Nicky’s have possibly been needing the run of late.
My last blog sparked a furious email exchange about Susan Boyle. Stemo suggests that she may be the “best even money shot of all time” given the fact that her Youtube has been viewed 60 million times. I accept that it’s a big number but I don’t accept that it will translate into votes. I repeat and reiterate my posting - SuBo will not win tonight…

It’s an outrage that Hollie Steel was given second chance. She should have been sent straight to bed with no cocoa. I suspect cheekpieces may need to be applied tonight to get her to focus on the job in hand.
I was surprised at the judges’ compassion, Mick - I somehow doubt that they’d have afforded the juggler a second chance had he dropped his torch and set himself alight.
I don’t think SuBo has covered herself in glory this week and I would be surprised if the novelty hasn’t worn off with many by now. The fact is she’s not a great singer - had she walked in to The X Factor auditions and performed like that she’d have been ousted in a hearbeat - and is only a viral hit because a) she’s a 48-year-old virgin, and b) she looks like Herman Munster’s stunt double.
Fingers crossed she’s beaten tonight - I’ve backed young Shaheen at 9/1 accordingly.
I suppose one could say Bert successfully layed SuBo!
I see Stemo’s tipping is up to it’s usual standard…
