Good and bad yesterday. Quaker Parrot ran no sort of race, but we were fairly unworried. She fell out of the stalls in a heap and never got moving - she’ll learn from the experience and will run better next time. Tikka Masala was more of a concern - she ran no sort of race and we couldn’t explain it away. Tom thinks that she may have come into season - we’ll find out in the next day or two.
Theophrastus looked as if he was going nowhere for most of the race but found another gear at the end and won by 13 lengths going away. He is an out and out stayer - we’ve always believed that but this is the first real proof. He needs to smarten up his jumping - he still hurdles like a baby, which is not surprising as he didn’t see a racecourse until he was seven. I am more convinced than ever that he has talent for the chasing game - we have to hope that he can learn his lessons.
Marine Boy goes today in what looks like a winnable listed race at Ascot. He showed enormous promise in his first run, but has thrown it away every time since by running too free. He’s headstrong and it’s not unusual for a horse like him to do this - the first time he ran he didn’t know what was going on and did as he was told, but every time thereafter he’s got excited beforehand and burnt up all his energy before the race and pulling too hard in the early stages.
If and when he becomes a pro he’ll be a force to be reckoned with. Today could be the day - his draw is ok to bury him in the pack from, which we failed to do last time from the one draw at Newmarket. Ascot is a relatively short journey. I’d prefer the ground a little softer, but he’ll go on it. I think he’ll win.

I was on Tikka and Theophrastus. There must have been some move for Tikka as she went out to 7/2 and was into 11/4 in 1 hit!! Theophrastus went well, i thought he was going to get outpaced and won point but i was happy with the 9/4.
Good news about STFCs deal with EA Sports, as a fan i hope we have some transfer activity in the summer and not just Simon Cox leaving!
Bert,
I have to say it was pleasing to see Theophrastus justify your faith in him after what has been, I’m sure you’ll admit, a torrid time ownership wise. Has anything come to light which may explain away some of the more disappointing performances, Tikka Masala in particular (I notice that Tom Dascombe’s form has tailed off a little in the last 10-12 days with a number of seemingly fancied horses running below par)?
On a quick side note; I regularly receive, as I’m sure many people do, e-mail invitations to join various tipping services and, whilst I give such correspodence no credence whatsoever, a recent ‘newcomer’ caught my eye this evening. The source of the e-mail (well, the URL given as the sender) would seem to be ‘profitablebetting.co.uk’, an address which leads you to an identical copy of Betfair’s homepage if you enter it into your browser. None of the header and tabbed links are active, the ‘for latest prices login’ message is missing and each of the body links opens the appropriate area of Betfair in a new window. Is this a site you are aware of, as it would seem to be a vehicle for collecting unsuspecting Betfair users’ details? As I don’t use Betfair all that often I was tempted to try to log in, just to see what happened, but though a quick note here was better advised.

Yes Tom, looks very much like a phishing scam. Betfair should have a look into this.

Hi Equipedia
Thanks for bringing that to our attention. We will contact the hosting company to arrange to have the site taken down.

Hi Bert,
obviously big dissapointment yesterday with Marine Boy. I have thought back to that first awesome run and the promise shown. In the Trading Post section today they quite strongly word “Marine Boy missed the break and is clearly a nutcase”.
Can you foresee his problems being overcome?
