Here’s hoping
Mar 30th, 2008 by Bert
My information was terrible yesterday, which is a bit worrying. I think there are a few bugs flying around.
One runner today - Hope Road, who goes in the first at Kempton and I’m pretty hopeful. He’s high in the handicap but this is a maiden and he’s well in. He has a bit of pace and he’s reliable enough - he goes on the ground, he’s a good jumper and he’s well in himself.

I do not know excactly what information you’re talking about, but hi, you’re my Dad.
Madeleine Black
Bert i read your interview with DAVID ASHWORTH (that scruffy looking bloke who writes for the Racing Post but looks like a guy who sits in the betting shop in his anorack with a couple of pound all afternnon) and couldnt help but chuckle at his desciption of you as ‘looking like a guy who fumbles about his house looking to come up with some new ideas’.
I also thought he was a bit critical of you dresswear Bert where he was more or less stating you were wearing cheapo clothes. Lets face it Mr Ashworth is no trendsetter himself. It just goes to show you that no matter how nice they appear face to face you cant trust the old journalists as the minute your back is turned they are trying to find fault eh ! I think he is jealous really me thinks !!
Anyway as the old saying goes never judge a book by its cover !!
Good luck
Mark
Bert,
Stephen here; i am desperate to start a new life and if you would be willing to meet with me i can explain why i am needing to start anew.
I can assure you that i am not some sort of weirdo, just a man who has made some bad choices which have hurt a lot of people and i need to change and i hope that you might agree to help me.
I ask that you allow your heart to rule your head and give me an hour of your time to hear what i have to say and decide for yourself if my life is worth turning around.
Just one hour please Andrew?
Stephen
Nip nip
I thought the article did not do you justice.
We await your book for the true story. :-).
So u really worth 200 large bert?
I think Stephen might be Maurice Malpas under an alias
A wise man once said Craig “never judge a man till you have walked a mile in his shoes” I would swap Maurice Malpas shoes for mine anyday.
Smile and the world smiles with you, cry and you cry alone. So i will do my best to Smile, which is not easy
Stephen,
I don’t have the time to write a full response, but in brief; I am sympathetic to anyone who is in dire straits through gambling (as I’m sure most punters would be - most of us have looked in to the abyss at some point in our lives) but I am not willing to help you out. I can’t reasonably help you and not help others in similar state - I won’t go there. I don’t imagine it will be easy for you to dig yourself out of whatever hole you are in, but it can be done, and to do it on your own is surely the way forward.
Craig,
!!. Give MM a break - short termism is a plague on modern day football (and many other areas of life) and I believe MM is setting his sights on the mid to long term. Judge him half way through next season.
No chance of a few quid for me then Bert. :-(.
Thanks for your reply Andrew.
I see where you are coming from and understand completely your feelings. i have now stopped gambling and am trying to move forward. i was not asking you to give me cash to sort out my problems. That would have been too easy and would not have taught me a lesson or the satisfaction of resolving the situation.
I was looking for someone to loan me the money to pay off all that i owe and pay them back in a structured way, that way i could live my day to day life without this stress and also know i was repaying my debt. Its difficult to explain in this forum how bad my situation is.
Thanks for even replying, your a good bloke.
Stephen - Not having a pop or judging you , just a cheap humorous moan about MM. Good luck for the future
Bert - Really, desperately, hope you’re right about MM and pleased you’re taking a medium term view. My concern is that his track record at Motherwell and start at Swindon suggest success under his leadership is unlikely
Good Luck Stephen.
I am sure you will dig yourself out of this one.
We all do.
