It was a very pleasing win for Present Danger at Hamilton. In some respects it was more of a relief than anything else as she was an expensive horse and we had fairly high hopes for her, but she did it in the style of a decent animal. She’ll have another race this year if she keeps her condition and we find a suitable opportunity.
Present Danger is one of three fillies I have that had been catching the eye on the gallops - the other two are ones that I bought in Japan. I bought three filly foals in Japan - two by Deep Impact and one by Kurofune. The most expensive of the three, Deep Impact ex Muncie is not working out at the moment - she’s small and a bit funny looking and is as slow as a boat on the gallops. Obviously I’m hoping she will improve - she was by far the most expensive being out of a group 1 winning mare.
The cheaper two have done really well. The other Deep Impact - out of a filly called Lhiz, who was a champion in Chile and won their 1,000 Guineas - is at Manor House and generally works with Present Danger. I have called her Sunday Bess. There isn’t much between Sunday Bess and Present Danger at home - they are both substantial and have good cruising speeds. Sunday Bess is a little more backward - she will be out soon but will probably only run once as a 2yo.
The cheapest of the three was by a multiple G1 winning Japanese dirt horse called Kurofune - her mother was an average performer but from a very good family. I have called her Whey Sauce and she is with Peter Chapple-Hyam. She has grown and she’s very big now - I watched her on the Limekilns at Newmarket this morning and she does it nicely. She may come out in a week or so and would be a likely winner first time up.
Peintre D’Argent goes at Wolver tonight - she had a poor race last time but she’s held her formn well this season and I expect her to go well today. She’s up to 14 furlongs for the first time - William isn’t convinced that she’ll get the trip but we wanted to try her over further but with a shorter run in.
Foghorn Leghorn goes again at Chester on Saturday having won there two weeks ago. He was drawn 1 that day and tomorrow he is 7 of 7 - he’s also up 5lb in the handicap. He has his favoured soft ground which is positive - he breaks so well that he might overcome his bad draw. Should go very well.
