Word on Winker
Jul 31st, 2008 by Mick
Just a quick note about Winker Watson’s run yesterday. Before the race it seemed that he had two questions to answer - 1) Had he trained on and 2) Would he stay a mile ? Thankfully the answer to the first one was positive though we got a clear no to the second. Ryan Moore said after the race that he thought he would win two furlongs out despite coming from a bit further back than he had planned. His assessment was that he was probably on the best horse in the race over 7 furlongs but that Winker had failed to get home.
Peter C-H will now look for a race back in trip. Deauville is a possibility. For now it’s fingers crossed that he comes out of the race OK. Yesterday was only the fifth run of his life and there will be plenty of options this season and next for him to go on from here.

Watched the race briefly. Seemed to be sweating up a bit and getting a bit agitated before entering the stalls. Would like to watch the race again. He is still my Favourote Horse, and would love to see him win again.
The gambler.
Hi Bert,
Was a nice run, looked a chance as they wound up, but didn’t get the mile. Must be some nice 7f races around for him.
Postive tho i must say !
great run from WW you must be well pleased
Winker Watson ran well - and for a moment I thought he might just do it! But the petrol ran out a shade too early. Nevertheless, he looked in great shape and there will surely be a race or two for him in due course.
any last min updates on kings head , been steady money all day
Harry - Jamie Moore rode earlier and thinks the ground will be OK for him. Let’s hope he’s right !
Kings heads was beat along way out
Bert / Mick….. Good luck with Marine Boy, lets hope we see something that points towards a good show in the Gimcrack.
