Winker waits
May 19th, 2008 by Bert
We left Winker out of the Irish 2,000 today - he’s back in work but short of full fitness and it’s too soon for him. He’ll probably go straight to Royal Ascot now.
It’s going to be a fairly quiet week runner wise. Scrapper Smith may come out towards the end of the week and he’s a lot better at home than he showed on the course - he could be my only runner.
There are a couple of runners at Windsor tonight that I’ll be following.
In the 6:40 Sayif comes out for Pete, owned by the owners of Authorized. Sayif is by Kheleyf, a first season sire who has got off to a decent start - the dam is the dam of Hunter Street, a decent 2yo. He was the most expensive of all Kheleyf progeny to go through the ring and is by all accounts a very decent and good looking prospect. On the negative side he’s already odds on and the trainer has yet to have a 2yo winner this season. Maybe I’ll just watch this one.
In the 7:10 Tom runs Savile’s Delight in a claimer. SD is extremely consistent and has been running in handicaps for a while - this is a fair drop in class and I’d be surprised if he doesn’t win it. Tom urged a little caution saying that he’ll run a bad race sooner or later - hopefully today won’t be the day and if the price isn’t too skinny I’ll have a little bet.
