Horse Pics

Further disappointment with Skid Solo, but some encouragement for Pete as Exceptional Art won at Windsor in fine style. It was good to see a Chapple-Hyam 2yo winning in the way they were winning last year. Skid is a really nice horse on the gallops but he won’t do it on the course and it’s pretty frustrating.
I’ve recently bought a new scanner, which gives me an excellent opportunity to publish some pictures of a few recent purchases.
.
First up is a filly foal I bought from the Sangster dispersal. By Pivotal out of a speedy mare, she’s a half sister to a group 1 winner. She looks great - this picture is six months old and she’s come on a lot since;
.
I also bought the filly below from the Sangster dispersal. By Rock of Gibraltar and well related, she was a late foal and is backward compared to the Pivotal. She’s also a bit straight up front in this picture, but she’s improved a lot since then.
.
I bought this half sister to Tariq by Elnadim at Tattersalls in May. She’s also a three part sister to Wi Dud, and she’s in training with Peter Chapple-Hyam. I’ve called her Teia Tephi - she’s showing a fair bit of early promise and could be one of my best 2yos.
.
The yearling below I bought at Saratoga last week. She’s by Mr Greeley out of My Reem, an unraced daughter of Chief’s Crown. I paid a lot for her ($500k).

Hi Bert,
The Rock of Gibraltar filly…. has Duchy of Cornwall produced in Australia previously? I seem to recall a good broodmare by the same name with Sangster connections back home.
Like the look of the American filly - is Mr Greeley a turf or dirt sire?
Scott - you are correct, the Duchy of Cornwall is from Australia.
Mr Greeley was mostly a dirt runner, but he has done well in the UK and Ireland, notably with Finsceal Beo but also Saoirse Abu.
Scott - I think she produced her first few foals in Australia, including a Group winner called Newquay.
Bert,
Best of luck with the above purchases. Must be very exciting not knowing where their racing careers will go. Fingers crossed they make it to the track and reach their full potential.
Bert,
The Mr. Greeley filly is a real looker, not hard to see how she cost as much as she did! The half-sister to Tariq seems a nice type as well. Good luck with them, and I guess you must be excited about Marine Boy in the Gimrack, what with the Knavesmire tending to favour front runners. Its a shame he has been gelded, but I guess that was a step taken to ensure his temperament didnt make him regressive? and may I ask where will he be sent (possibly America?) for his 3yo career bearing in mind geldings cannot contest classics?
Thanks and best wishes.
Fred
Fred,
I think MB was reported to be a ‘Rig’ which means that one or both testicles haven’t fallen. When this happens in horses they can remain in the abdomen and cause problems. ‘Racing Rigs’ are normally gelded and they may have to have a nasty operation especially if both are ‘missing’. Thus his temperament may not be in question!
Thanks lastfiver. Didn’t mean to suggest he might be ungenuine was just enquiring!
Fred - lastfiver is correct, MB was a rig, which is unfortunate.
I want to keep MB with Tom, but if he turns out to be top class we may have to have to campaign him far and wide. It would be a nice problem to have if it happens - for now I’m just thinking of the next race.
