Ascot looms…
Jun 16th, 2007 by Bert
…and I’m beginning to get excited. Winker is extremely well and we’ve been arguing the toss with Pete all week as to which race he’ll go for. It’s looking like we’re going for the Norfolk on Thursday. Major Eazy will run in the Windsor Castle on Tuesday, and Frankie is taking the ride. He’s run in the best 2yo company without winning anything, but Brian’s horses hadn’t been firing. That seems to have changed (even Adam Eterno beat a couple home yesterday…) and I’d give him a proper chance at hopefully decent odds.
On the Saturday Captain Hurricane may run in the Wokingham, but he’s slipped so far in the ratings now that he probably won’t get in. King’s Head goes for the Duke of Edinburgh handicap.

Best of luck with Winker Watson next week and Major Eazy, I have only just started to follow you blog, which i find intresting. Would you have preferred Winker to have had another run prior to ascot? The race he won has only thrown Nacho Libre as a winner although i know peter will have kept alot to work with and he did look a class act that day. I noticed the owners name on the racing post did you have a winner at chester on leger day a few years ago? what was it called if you did?
Hi Ryan,
Pete said right from the start that he only wanted Winker to have one run before Ascot. He’s a very straightforward horse and he wouldn’t need the extra experience - Dutch Art only had one run before going for the Norfolk last year. I’m not worried about the number of winners that have come out of the race as he won as he liked - what matters is how he’s going at home, and he’s going great.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a winner at Chester.
Great win today Bert! What’s next for Winker?
