Baldovina (3 Yr) | Trainer: David Pipe

I claimed Baldovina at Lingfield in Feb from Marco Botti. She’s skinny at the moment and she was a very late foal - I’m going to give her lots of time.

Long time no blog.¬† I’ve been out and about¬†for a while now with no blogging time, so a fair bit to catch up on.
Last Thursday I went up to Cambridge with Steve Morana, Betfair CFO.  We spent the afternoon in the offices of a small company called Featurespace - they are data analysts specialising in [...]

I went on a bit of a tour last week and I¬†got a selection of photos through yesterday, so here we go.¬† First up - Baldovina’s foal by Dutch Art, only 2 days old;

Described as very nice for a first foal.  Second up we have my 2yo Rock of Gibraltar / Duchy of Cornwall filly [...]

A new addition¬†this morning - Baldovina foaled a bay filly.¬† She is described to me as a very good first foal - she’s by Dutch Art.
I’ve been hemmed in by snow for the last couple of days - I finally managed to escape late this afternoon.¬† The farm looks amazing - totally white.¬† The children [...]

I bought another mare at Tattersalls last week - Veiled Beauty is the dam of The Cheka, and I paid 160k Guineas for her.¬† She’s by Royal Academy out of¬†a decent Khaled Abdulla mare, and she’s in foal to Byron.¬† I’ll be cheering The Cheka on as he goes for glory in 2009.
Veiled Beauty will [...]

I’ve been very busy this week and I’ve had no time for blogging.¬† It’s all a bit odd - I’m not working any more but all of the time I’ve freed up has been filled and more.¬† By the time I’ve fed and dropped of the children (leave at 7:30, hour round trip), been to [...]

First things first, and the diet’s going ok - 18st3 this morning.¬† I’ve had a headache but nothing worse than that - I still haven’t worked out how I intend to do it, but the one thing I know I must do is break my sugar habit permanently.¬† Thanks all for the encouraging comments.
¬†I’m having [...]

The story rolls on -¬†Felon escapes the clutches of the BHA but walks straight into the arms of France Galop.¬† If he fails his B test and gets some more time off he will at least be able to update and release his long awaited¬†autobiography, and it’s going to be a cracking read.
I’m having a [...]

Go on Baldy

Only one runner today - Baldovina at Fontwell.¬† I’ll be very surprised if she wins.
There’s a few I’ll be backing.¬† Tariq has worked out very well and looks the right sort at Longchamp.¬† Creachadoir apparently goes well at home.¬† Armenian Boy is decent in the third at Fontwell.¬† A friend tried to buy Malt or [...]

Pete called us after Winker’s work this morning and said he is still running a bit flat and needs more time.¬† We could have run him over the weekend in group company but he’s too good a horse to take liberties with.¬† The Middle Park is only three weeks away and that is his next [...]

A poor day yesterday, and the end to a bad week of betting.¬† I’m going to take a break from betting fairly soon - it’s too time consuming and too much of a distraction.
Baldovina makes her hurdling bow today in a pretty uncompetitive maiden.  On the face of it she has a lot going for [...]

Authorized did fantastically and I’m thrilled for Pete.¬† I backed him but I was a bit cowardly and I should have had more on.¬† It was nearly a very good day as Oasis Wind came close - the unlucky horse in that race was Hitchens, who ran behind Effingham and backs up that form.
 Day 2 [...]

I have a few interesting entries this week.
Baldovina is declared in a maiden hurdle for David Pipe on Wednesday night.¬† There’s a chance she’ll turn her form around, but I think it’s unlikely.
Lord Peter Flint may finally make his debut on Friday.¬† At this stage I don’t know if he’ll stand his ground - we [...]

After a lot of hype Ary finally came out on Saturday.¬† It looked as if he was dead and buried, but in a dramatic finale he stormed back to beat Tom.¬† Unfortunately King’s Quay came on the wide outside and beat them both - still an excellent¬†second, and if the cards had fallen a little [...]

Nothing runs for me during the week, but a fair bit of action at the weekend.
Prince Ary is down to run on Saturday at Market Rasen in a race that the Pipe’s have won on several occasions.¬† He ought to have a decent chance.¬† Baldovina has two entries for the Saturday and one at Windsor on the Monday [...]

… and treat those two imposters just the same…¬† I’m not sure I agree with Rudyard Kipling on that one - I definitely prefer triumph to disaster and I’ve seen a bit of both this week.
Authorized’s defeat last week was a blow - I was hoping he’d have an unbeaten 3yo year.¬† I’m less comfortable [...]

I’ve been waiting to write that headline for a long time.¬† Major Eazy’s win at the fifth attempt on Saturday night was long overdue, and at last we have confirmation of something we have believed for a long time - he is a proper racehorse.
Every jockey who has sat on ME has told us that [...]

I went to see Tom Dascombe on Thursday, and welcome Shawhill back from France.¬† The RP rated her run 99, and Timeform gave it 95.¬† We’ll continue to aim her at listed races or better.¬† Baldovina was well and she may run tomorrow.¬† We’ve been trying to get a run into her for a while, [...]

Mick and I went down to Lambourn early on Thursday to catch up with a few trainers.
We started with Tom Dascombe, and watched all four horses in light work. Conservation has recovered from the gelding operation and also from an accident he had on the horse walker - he’s still a while away from a [...]
