Good weather for ducks
Jun 3rd, 2008 by Bert
Shepherd’s Warning was disappointing yesterday, but I’m not too worried. She gets phased pretty easily, and we think that’s what happened yesterday - she’ll be back to her best in a small field going around a bend.
More rain today and more expected on Thursday. Good going at Epsom is looking like a big outsider now and I’m told Bougie is licking his lips at the thought of taking on some of these hype horse. His price is too long - he’ll run a big race.
I like Smoothly Does It at Ripon today - it’s all in his favour and he could be a real good thing. Another I’m looking at is Admiralcollingwood at Southwell - pulled up last time after being backed and looking the part for a while, back over a shorter distance and with a shrewd trainer.

I had my “interest only” couple of quid e.w. Shepherds Warning yesterday, plus a similar amount e.w. on Berts Memory. Came out even-stevens. You’re to be admired for sitting through that Talent Show thingy. Not my cuppa tea at all and when I saw that a break-dancer chap had won the final I can only imagine what the rest must have been like.
Just a note to say bad news about Silverjet, I have a gamble on stocks and shares in addition to the horses. At the moment this is proving tricky like the horses. There was an article in the paper about cost of travel and the cheapest by far way of getting to European cities is flying, often 5 and 6 times less expensive than buses or trains so can not be much profit in this business. I have been having a look at Investment Trusts where I have noticed one or two have a bit of value. Any thoughts on investments you wish to share.
On the suject of horses have you bought any jumpers at the recent sales? What is your opinion of the breeze up sales?
Many thanks for resolving that issue.
