Irish tour
Dec 15th, 2007 by Bert
I’m still having a busy time in the run up to Christmas.
On Thursday night I went to a do in the city - later on the Duke and Duchess of York turned up (separately), giving me my celebrity action although I didn’t talk to them. I got to Heathrow late, meeting Tom Goff, and we flew to Cork - from there we went to Cashel and stayed in the Cashel Palace hotel.
After an early start we made our way to Kiltinan Castle stud, which is owned by Andrew Lloyd-Webber (www.kiltinancastlestud.com). Tom looked at a couple of mares he had placed there and then we had a good look around - it is a staggeringly beautiful place, both the grounds and the castle. From there we went to Coolmore.
Coolmore was very different to Kiltinan - new buildings built to high standards, a smart reception with TVs, expensive paintings etc. We were extremely well looked after - we wandered around and we were shown most of the stallions - Galileo, Montjeu, Danehill Dancer, Rock of Gibraltar, Hawkwing, Hurricane Run, Oratorio, Peintre Celebre and others. The only one we didn’t get to see was Sadlers Wells who was out having a walk. Amazing stuff. Later I had a look at a couple of yearling fillies and then we headed back to the airport.
I got back to Hammersmith just in time to watch Shepherds Warning in the 7:00 at Wolverhampton. She won well - unfortunately I didn’t back her. Lilac Moon ran later, but ran poorly - I think she’s over the top now and needs a break.
I’m interested in the Boylesports International hurdle today, but there are too many I fancy. Straw Bear is, I’m told, in excellent form and will run a big race. Osana is an intriguing runner given that he is favourite in the Ladbroke in a weeks time. Afsoun cost me dear last time when he ultimately gave best to Hardy Eustace, but Mick Fitzgerald dropped his whip before the last and that surely cost him the race. There are other good horses in the race but I think the winner will come from these three - I’ll go with Afsoun.

Excellent stuff. Keep dropping those names. Adds a bit of excitement to our dull and dreary lives.
I am afraid I am having to award you “Blog of the Day”. :-).
The Gambler. :-).
Bert,
Well done on Shepherds Warning - the guy you claimed that off had the tissue fav in the Wolves race on Friday night, Maybe I Won’t. Surprised Shepherds warning was not claimed, whilst not the biggest definitely a battler and I thought she won with some ease on Friday. The Ayr run cocked the h’cap job up at the time, but assuming the h’capper gives her no more than a pound or two max for that she would be of interest in a mile nursery, poss even at Southwell !
Be lucky
Kev
Hi Bert,
Just been perusing your site as i am a semi proff gambler and just done a search to see what came up on Gambers Diaries.
Just had a great weekend betting on the Football with a Lumpy Double ON MAN UTD HT/FT 4/1 AND ARSENAL 6/4…Luckily UTD scored just on H/T and the rest is history. Well its nice when things work out like that. Mainly i bet on Sports Golf MATCH PLAY and Football but also check the horse prices every morning as soon as they price up and if any firm prices too high and i fancy the horse i am on it like a flash for the value.
BTW Keep your eye out for EARL COMPTON as it finished like a train after being gambled down from 16-1 to 6-1 at Kempton Sunday running on and coming second just wanting a bit further next time out.
OK be lucky Bert and keep blogging away as i will read daily.
Be Lucky Mark
TG,
I’ve put you on my blogroll - not sure why you weren’t there before. I see from a previous comment that I owe you an answer from a while back - I’m happy to do an interview with Man of Mystery some time in the new year.
Great Stuff. He will be delighted. :-).
Interesting Blog keep it up as i have Bookmarked it.
Cheers Mark
