The big day arrives for Max and everything has gone as well as it could have. The ground is probably about right. She seems to be spot on and ready to run her race. Her draw (10) looks pretty good - she’ll need a bit of cover and wouldn’t want to be stuck out left or right. No excuses.
One worry I have is that she’ll play up going to the start or won’t go into the stalls - we’ve worked on this but it’s a different matter doing it in unfamiliar surroundings with thousands of people around. Other worries - she may not get the trip and main concern of course that she simply won’t be good enough.
I feel pretty positive though.
I wonder what Winker would have done had he run yesterday. I hope he gets the chance to take New Approach and Henrythenavigator on one day.

Hi Andrew,
spent a few hours going through my Whitley..’Racing Research ‘..annual for todays big race and Max gets a good time figure from last season ..and in the face of it the race is wideopen and I wouldn’t be surprised to see her run into a place ..hence the reason why I have put my hand in the fire and got on at 40-1 e/w.
Good luck.
It was a big step-up from Listed to Group 1, so 11th wasn’t too bad. She did get a bit excited beforehand. Jim McGrath (?) said she looked like a sprinter, and he is probably right.
I hope it was a good experience for owner and trainer.
Max just wasnt good enough simplae as that but you tried anyway and thats the main thing because if you didnt enter him you would have been saying ‘ i wonder if ‘
Bert are you looking to but more horses and get rid of some of those you have to try and get some new blood in. ? I personally would as there are a few that wont yield any win or perhaps place money. Effingham is one that you will struggle to sell for any decent amount. It could be banded racing for him in the future.
Come on Bert get on the phone to one of your trainers and get a winner like SHepherds to put a smile on your face.!
