Not what I was looking for
May 2nd, 2008 by Bert
Sill no luck with the horses. Effingham was last in his race and Skid Solo was last but one - not the results I was looking for. It’s all small fry compared to Max’s run on Sunday, and I haven’t wasted any luck.
Effingham was truly awful and we couldn’t find any obvious excuses. He’s destined for the July sale at the moment and as things stand I’m not going to get much for him. The best chance of a turnaround seems to be a change of scenery - I’m having him moved to Nicky Vaughan, more in hope than anything else.
Skid Solo was also a real disappointment. He may not have handled the ground and we think he’s a bit better than that, but we’ve had to mark our opinion of the horse right down. He’ll probably have a bit of a break now hoping that that brings some improvement.
The ground at Newmarket seems to be holding up. Bring it on…

Good Luck with Max.
Skid Solo did indeed run a stinker - what a difference a year makes, with Winker Watson winning the same race 12 months earlier. Despite the poor run I must applaud you and your colleagues in the Comic Strip Heroes for the horses’ names, delving into the realms of the obscure to come up with Skid Solo. I must admit I’d forgotten him altogether before being reminded he was in Tiger years ago.
As for Winker, let’s hope he’s soon back on course though I doubt I’ll ever match the 25-1 I had for him in the Guineas. Is there any chance he’ll be ready for Royal Ascot and perhaps the St James Palace Stakes?
Bert i can tell you sound a bit down with the results lately but as you say you havent wasted any luck as you havent had a snifter of luck so perhaps come Sunday your horse will win the big one and the old boys from Dubai will be asking you to name your price for your 16 grand pony while you are spraying champers over them laughing at them telling them to add a couple of zeros to the cheque. (one can dream Bert and they do come true.)
Anyway thats it Bert the house is sold, the car auctioned and the flights and hotel booked for after the big race to take me to my new Villa on the Cote d’asur for a life of pure indulgence or just in case i have kept a sleeping bag and some cardboard boxes in case it all goes wrong and i end up sleeping at the back of the Savoy with the other homeless……but no lets be positive and as you saty Bring it on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bert
I’ll be sat next to another one of Toms owners at Selhurst Park when the race goes off hoping Palace get 3 points and a playoff place. Sunday night could be massive if Palace win and by the time we get back to the pub Max has hosed up in the 1000 and all alot richer.
Sincerly the best of luck with her.
paul bee i think you were more on target with what you stated. I had a throway tenner on at 40/1 but ended up having bifggest bet of year on the French horse. I thinkthe only way Max is going to win the Guineas is if the rst pull carts of coal.
