Prince Ary (4 Yo) | Trainer: DAVID PIPE

Prince Ary was a decent performer on the flat with Barry Hills over 1m 2f. The horse was originally 50% owned by John Harvey and 50% by a partner - when Hills suggested the horse would be better hurdling, the partner wanted out so I bought in. He is clearly decent, although on form he looks a shade short of top class. He may be better on better ground. He may only just get 2 miles.

I went to Lapland on the weekend, which was good fun.¬† It was a real winter wonderland - pine forests of deep snow.¬† We had a late night husky ride (they don’t half motor), a reindeer sleigh ride followed by¬†a trek to meet Santa in a hut in the woods and a snowmobile trek.¬† The [...]

I went down to Lambourn yesterday and spent the morning with Tom Dascombe.¬† He’s extended his stable by taking over the stables next door - until recently the home of Paul Blockley.¬† I had a look at all my horses.
There isn’t a lot to report.¬† All were well.¬† Marine Boy continues to impress with his [...]

A good day on Sunday with King’s Head doing it nicely.¬† He needs it G/F or firm and given that he has¬†invariably delivered¬†when he has had his ground I probably should have given him a stronger write up.¬† He may come out again on the weekend - he has entries on Saturday at Market Rasen [...]

A disappointing day yesterday on the track and an expensive one for my account but by no means a disaster.
Nicky Nutjob was disappointing, but it’s probably not the end of the world.¬† He’ll improve plenty for the experience, but he’s not looking like a sharp or early type - he’ll¬†probably be more effective over longer [...]

Stud duty

Jane and I had an excellent day out on Monday when we had a tour of a couple of stud farms in the Newbury area.
We dropped the children off early¬†and I gave the dog a quick walk.¬† I’d ordered a driver for the day and we left home at around 9:30 - an hour later we [...]

I have a runner at Aintree tomorrow with Prince Ary getting in to the last race and¬†I think he has a very respectable chance.¬† It’s his second run back from a wind op, he ran well for a long while last time before he blew up and he may strip a bit fitter this time [...]

A busy week, and a difficult one with Jane being ill with flu and me not being able to drive.¬† I still managed to fit in three visits to the racecourse, and with Cheltenham coming up I’m going to be raced out be the end of next week.
On Wednesday I went down to Fontwell, where [...]

Cheltenham approaches and I have a few potential runners, but it brings a few dilemmas.¬† Currently I have both Mon Michel and Prince Ary declared for the Imperial Cup on Saturday and the County Hurdle on the Friday of Cheltenham, and they could both run in both races.¬† I also have King’s Head and Hope [...]

A major blow yesterday when Mon Michel coughed and¬†later returned a bad blood test¬†after his final piece of work for the Totesport Trophy.¬† Everything up to this point had gone right and I thought he had a major chance of picking up the prize, but it wasn’t to be.¬†
He won’t be out for long but [...]

A week away and a lot to report.
Effingham came nowhere - the vet has found a small fracture which could be the problem.¬† He’ll be gelded now - should be ok next season.
We’ve had a decent offer for Lord Peter Flint which is subject to a vet’s exam - if he passes he’ll be sold.¬† [...]

Winker made the front page of the Racing Post today as Jeremy went public with our ambitious plans.¬†¬†Winker is extremely well and we think¬†he’s the best 2yo out there - we’re going to try to win both the Middle Park and the Dewhurst to prove our point, and we’re hoping we can persuade Jim Bolger [...]

The boss had a late one last night after the Betfair Pro-Am Golf Tournament so I’ll fill in for now. Bert has Prince Ary running at Market Rasen (3.45) today in a valuable handicap hurdle with ¬£30,000+ to the winner. He was touched off by a short head on his only previous visit to the [...]

Bouguereau runs in the 4.40 at Goodwood, and anything other than a win will be a disappointment.  His came fourth last time in the Criterium du Fonds, a listed race at Deaville which is a group race in all but name.  The prize money for this race is greater than that for the Flying Childers [...]

Pete called us after Winker’s work this morning and said he is still running a bit flat and needs more time.¬† We could have run him over the weekend in group company but he’s too good a horse to take liberties with.¬† The Middle Park is only three weeks away and that is his next [...]

Ultimately a disappointing week horse wise, but a good break with the family.
We took the quick ferry over to France on the Monday - around 3 hours from Portsmouth to Cherbourg and a 2 hour drive the other end.¬† It was fairly uneventful - my one observation was that although I wasn’t driving that fast [...]

After a lot of hype Ary finally came out on Saturday.¬† It looked as if he was dead and buried, but in a dramatic finale he stormed back to beat Tom.¬† Unfortunately King’s Quay came on the wide outside and beat them both - still an excellent¬†second, and if the cards had fallen a little [...]

Nothing runs for me during the week, but a fair bit of action at the weekend.
Prince Ary is down to run on Saturday at Market Rasen in a race that the Pipe’s have won on several occasions.¬† He ought to have a decent chance.¬† Baldovina has two entries for the Saturday and one at Windsor on the Monday [...]

Another winner for the string and my betting form is still very solid. Prince Ary won easily and posted the best time of the night - he finished tired but he appeared to stay the slightly longer distance. Hernando Royal was a well backed and easy winner.
The bet that got away was Potentiale in the [...]

Winker Watson, recently top of the Racing Post 2yo ratings with 92 has slipped to fourth - Major Eazy is joint seventh on 88. Achilles of Troy tops the list with 100. Call me a pedant but I don’t like the name - Achilles was Greek and he fought against the Trojans, not with them.
Shawhill [...]
