Season starting in earnest
Jun 29th, 2008 by Bert
I’ve been busy this week working on something that I’ll publish some other time. Kings Head was supposed to run on Friday but we pulled him out after the overnight rain. Lord Snooty ran in the US last night coming third.
My first four bets of the week, all at decent prices, all came second - I got a little back as I covered the place on a couple of them but it looked like it would be a frustrating week. I had a stroke of luck on Wednesday night when I got stuck in traffic and missed having a large bet on an odds-on shot that got beaten. Yesterday I only had two bets - Hitchens and Danish Art (half sister to Scrapper Smith). Both won in tight photos, turning it into a good week.
Today I’m laying Tartan Bearer - today’s race will be very different to Epsom and he’s a short price given the number of imponderables. I’ll back Myboycharlie in the 2:40 at the Curragh. My NH man is telling me to back Still at Lunch (2:15) and Philson Run (4:25) at Uttoxeter, although I have heard that connections of Philson’s run are concerned about the ground. I may also back Mr Hichens in the first at Windsor, just so that I can claim the Hichens double if he wins.
My season may start in earnest next week with a number of possible runners. I’ll write this up when I get a little more time.
