Jon
I don't suppose the horse's dam is German bred? It's a little known fact that all horses bred from a German dam have to have a name starting with the same letter as the initial letter of the Dam's name.
If the dam isn't German then just ignore me!
Good luck with the horse anyway.

Jon,

I see what you mean about the Vs, although none of the siblings have names beginning with V.

I don't have any hard and fast rules for naming horses. If there's a nice way to combine dam and sire in one name then go for it, but often it isn't easy. I generally come up with a quick shortlist, chew on it for a day or two and settle on the one that feels best. Verio or Rarefy are possible choices on the name combining basis.

Max is quite tricky and she normally works on her own - she'll be out early, perhaps on the first day of the season proper.

Bert,

Off to Toms on Saturday to see our Captain Rio filly. I'm very excited to see her progress, Tom reports she is finding her work easy and may be an early two year old. We need to name her also.... the blood line from her Dams all have V's as a start so I'm not sure if we should follow this, are there any rules you follow when naming Bert?

Hopefully some of your string we'll be working with her for me to have a look at. Particularly Max One two three as I was very interested to hear your hope for it this year.
