Tough Game
Feb 1st, 2009 by Bert
It was a truly depressing day today. Nick Gifford rang late on with three pieces of bad news.
Killaghy Castle had a fatal fall at Sandown. He was a lovely horse and a great prospect and I was very sad to hear this news.
Theophrastus is injured and is a highly unlikely runner for tomorrow. It’s been one injury after another with him - he’s a seven year old now and he’s yet to see a racecourse. It’s been extremely frustrating.
Big Paddy has got colic and he had to be rushed to the vet. They may have to operate - if they do the operation has a very high mortality rate (around 50%). We have our fingers crossed.
I’ll be at Fontwell tomorrow to watch Latin America run, but it won’t be the day out I was hoping for. Racing can be a tough game.

Sorry to hear that.
Hope horses come through OK.
I do like that little pub by the station at Fontwell.
Turn right and under the bridge.
They used to have a game where you can throw hoops at a bulls head.
Very cheap food. Ham Hock I seem to remember.
Might cheer you up.
Good Luck.
fingers crossed your horse makes it.
I would just like to say congratulations for Latin Americas victory. Was at Fontwell, he battled back really well and looks a nice prospect. Any future plans for him at the moment?
Congratulations on Latin America win, would have won cosily but looked as if tried to go down path about a furlong out, your jockey did well to keep him on straight line.
Hope all is ok with paddy. A good run from latin America, looks a nice prospect. Nick Gifford has a good stable Jockey in Jay pemberton, unlike his choice in liam treadwell, lets hope that Jay continues to ride your Horses, he seems to be able to get the best out of his mounts, his style of riding is alot like Leighton Aspell, and rides like an old fashioned jump Jockey who nurses his mounts carefully over each fence. lets hope he is aboard when you go hurdling.
