Winker out
Oct 2nd, 2007 by Bert
Desperate news from Pete - Winker had a setback today and will now miss the rest of the season. He did a light piece of work this morning and he was fine immediately afterwards, but he was sore and a bit stiff later on and they called in the vet. An X-ray showed no damage, but the vet has advised us that if we run him now we risk an injury and we should give him 4-6 weeks rest. This effectively rules out the rest of the season.
It’s a terrible blow - the timing couldn’t be worse. I’m absolutely gutted.

Whatever have you done to deserve such an abysmal run of bad luck and bad news? This is unbelievable, but with a horse of Winker’s calibre there is no option other than to rest him for a couple of months.
So sorry to learn of yet more sad news and can only wish you the best of British from here on in.
ExSettler.
What an absolute choker. You must be feeling sick, Bert. We were all really looking forward to Winker’s next run but will have to wait till next season. Let’s just be thankful that the set back happened in such a way that it can be properly handled rather than in the heat of a race when untold damage could have been inflicted.
Sorry to hear that. Winker is my favourite horse.
On a different note, have you or Betfair ever thought about buying a horse for betfair users?
