My poor run continues with Mon Michel soundly beaten at Taunton on Thursday. Again he coughed after the race and he clearly isn’t right. It’s worrying – he has the scope to make a very decent chaser but he needs to be right in himself and he hasn’t shown his best for a while now.
Shepherd’s Warning goes on Monday in a weak race. Her form is terrible but it would be a mistake to write her off – she needs the race run to suit, but she’s shown she can win when the cards fall right for her. 7f at Wolver is the call – on the face of it her draw (1) is good but she doesn’t like being crowded and will probably need to get out. Richard Kingscote knows how to ride her, which is a big positive.
I’ve not been betting this week – I’ve had a lot of work on and also I’ve been a bit fed up with the horses running so badly. The Hennessy is, as always, a great race, and I can’t resist a bet. I played golf with Sam Thomas earlier in the year and I asked him for a horse to put in my ten to follow – without hesitating he said Big Bucks. I’ll go with that.
