Big business

Just a quick note today as I have to go out and man my stand at the village fair.  My girls have been making jam during the week from blackberries and apples picked on the farm – we’ve got sixty jars to sell, all neatly packaged with our own brand labels on.

It’s yet another business venture to cap off a busy week.  I’ve had a series of meetings over the last few days, including a board meeting yesterday for Swindon Town and a board meeting the day before for Stats on Sport, now renamed BettorLogic.

On to the serious business though, and the St Leger looks better and stronger than recent years.  I’ve already backed Doctor Fremantle who feels like the right sort of animal for this.  I think they went to fast too early in the Irish derby, which played into Frozen Fire’s hooves – the English derby had no pace on early and the staying types (Doctor Fremantle included) couldn’t live with the pace at the end – I think DF is better than he showed that day.  The two fillies in the race look very good, and either could win – I think it’s a real hot race.

Pete runs Al Qasi in the G2 7f, and with Pete’s horses seemingly running well again I think he’s a cracking bet for a place.  In the sprint cup, with the ground a little better than it was I have to favour African Rose and may be tempted in for a bet – it hurts me to desert my old friend Utmost Respect but I can’t resist improving 3yo fillies over sprint distances.

I’ve got a lot of runners very close to a run now, and they should start coming out next week.  Hopefully I’ll have at least three running at Newbury on Saturday.
