Day 2

Not a bad day yesterday, although it didn’t work out so well in the evening.  I was wrong on Paco Boy and I sensed that before the race – his frame and his daisy cutting action weren’t as I remembered.  Canford Cliffs might be a phenomenon –  time will tell but there were several highly touted horses in that race and they simply couldn’t live with him.

Pansy Potter was no good at Yarmouth in the evening – the commentator described her as “very very average” after the race, which had Jane laughing.  I think we need to get her off the books.

I’m only having two bets today.

Tartan Bearer is a consistent performer and I think this is his trip – he appeared to get the trip well in the Derby but it wasn’t a true run race and it feels like he has too much pace to truly get a mile and a half.  There’s plenty of oppo today but he’s an obvious favourite and it feels like he should be winning this race more than the 35% of the time implied by his price.

Tom is running Don’t Tell Mary in the Queen Mary – she’s got real class and I’m surprised she’s not favourite.  I’ll be happy if she wins as I’ve got pieces of seven 2yos with Tom this year.  Rose Blossom has strong claims, and Richard Fahey is a man to be reckoned with.  I’ll oppose them both with Lady of the Desert though, who looked special when she trounced what looked like a decent field in a Leicester maiden.  I like the breeding – her dam was Queen’s Logic who won this race in 2001.
