Fit for a King

I had hoped for three runners today but I’m down to one after the two Maxes pulled out.  He’s a good one though – King’s Head runs at Aintree tonight, and if the rains stay away I see no reason why he won’t go in again.  He’s fit and well.

Nine days break isn’t a lot, but I don’t think his last run took much out of him and I think he’ll run his race.  The ground (currently listed as good) wouldn’t be perfect, but my understanding is that it is slightly on the fast side.  The first couple of races should clear this up – if the times are relatively fast then the ground should not be a concern.  The price seems to be holding up ok at around 3/1.

Elsewhere;  At Newbury Allied Forces tries to follow up carrying top weight in the 3:55.  I was keen to oppose him on Wednesday on the basis of the G/F ground (he was a NR) – he’d probably appreciate it a little softer today, but not enough to turn me against him.  Worth a small bet perhaps.

In the last Kasban comes out almost a year after he was last seen on the course.  He was sold in the July sales and I bid for him – he went for a remarkable 85k Guineas (huge money for a 74 rated maiden who was on the small side).  He is now with Jane Chapple-Hyam who has recently moved to Uplands.  He may need the run but possibly not as smaller types tend to be easier to get fit – he could be worth an interest at a big price (33/1 currently).
