Good looking sort

A funny day yesterday – it felt like a long day chauffeuring my kids around with a couple of business meetings crammed in to the middle of the day. There was at least time to watch a bit of racing and lose a bit of money – I came second in a couple of agonisingly close finishes.

I had a chat with Eddie on the way home from school – he told me that one of his friends had been told off for swearing. I asked him what he said;
“I’ll give you a clue Dad – it was that guy who was put on the cross”

Royal Ascot Day 1 today, and I have a runner in the Windsor Castle. I own a leg in Bear Behind, and he should run well – Tom also has him in the Norfolk and is thinking of running in both.

I’ll be backing Canford Cliffs in the first. It isn’t easy to pick holes in Goldikova’s form but Canford may still be on the upgrade and he’s a better horse than Paco Boy. Whatever happens it promises to be a great race.

In the Coventry I’m sticking with Gabrial, who won the Brian Yeardley with little to spare last time but wouldn’t have been suited by the conditions. He’ll be better over six and I suspect with a little more juice in the ground. His form doesn’t quite match that of the principals in the race but he is 25-1 and he is a real good looking sort.
