I’ve got some catching up to do, but first a quick note on Major Eazy in the 7:15 at Lingfield tonight.
Brian described him this morning as “a certainty”. I’ve been in racing for long enough to know that certainties as described are anything but, and I suspect ME is no exception to this. Two hurdles stand in his way – the ground and his temperament.
He’s unraced on heavy ground. His breeding suggests he’s probably ok on it and Brian think’s he’ll be ok on it. It’s bucketing down at the moment and the ground could be really desperate. The extreme state of the ground has to be viewed as a negative. His temperament is a small concern, and again is worth a point or two on his odds.
His form I think is very strong – it is possible he’s not the most able horse here, but he’s been running well in top class races and I’d be surprised if there’s a better animal in this race. The stable form is not IMO a negative – Brian’s horses are not in any form but that’s been the case for a while and he’s been running during this time.
I’ll probably back him as I’ve backed him every time he’s run so far and it would be a bit galling to see him win without having had a bet. I suspect he’ll go well and I hope he’ll win – if the price drifts out towards 2/1 I may end up having a decent bet.
