Survival

A big day on Saturday with Swindon winning at home and guaranteeing their survival in League 1 this year.  We’ve not had an easy time of it at STFC – we were hoping to go up this year but it didn’t work out and we were in real danger of relegation despite a goal difference of only -3.  It’s an enormous relief – it would have been totally soul destroying to have been relegated after a season in which we didn’t play too badly.  I feel very positive about next season now.

Winker was down to run on Saturday but the ground came up too firm and we had to pull him out.  It’s frustrating – I don’t know when we’ll run him next now.  My two runners at Epsom both ran terribly – Tifernati finished 17th out of 18 and Hector Spectre finished 18th out of 18.  Tifernati didn’t appear to like the track and Hector Spectre didn’t appear to like the ground.   It’s not quite happening for me at the moment.

I have quite a few down to run this week, although the ground may put some off.  On Tuesday Quaker Parrot goes at Bath – she is one of five 2yo fillies that I part own in a syndicate with the Timeform Betfair racing club, all trained by Tom Dascombe.  Tom’s 2yos are going well and she’s an early type who I would expect to run well – there’s a picture here;

Later at Lingfield Tikka Masala has her first run in a handicap, and again I’m hoping for a decent run.  I was disappointed with her last season but her first run over 7f this season was a big improvement and she may be a better prospect than I’d thought.  She’s a light framed type and might not improve as much from first to second run as some, but she’s going the right way overall.

On Wednesday Marine Boy goes for a listed race at Ascot, and he’s more favoure than most by the conditions.  In the evening Major Eazy may go at Kempton, and we’re hoping he’ll have a good year.  Bea Menace is down to come out on Thursday.
