Wilf and Wolf

Another winner the other day as Wear ’em out Wilf ground out a win at Yarmouth. He’s a bit of a forgotten horse in the string – he had problems early on and I assumed he’d never come to much. He seems to have a bit of fighting spirit in line with his name – good stuff and he may have more races in him.

Manor House are having one or two winners now – I wouldn’t say the stable is firing but it’s in slightly better heart. It’s been a tough season – we had high hopes at the outset but we’ve had problems and the winners haven’t come as we’d have liked. Wolf Slayer comes out tomorrow at Leics – I own her jointly with Michael. I like the look of her and she works reasonably well at home – she should have a good chance.

She’s the third favourite in her race. The fav, Grandma’s Dream, is exactly the type that I’m happy to be taking on. An early 2yo type she ran creditably at Ascot, but is still a maiden and failed to deliver last time – even if she runs up to her best I’d fancy our chances. Biaraafa is unraced but is clearly liked in the stable. Michael Bell runs a stable six to follow – Biaraafa is in his list and and is also in the list of four of the stable staff. She must have been quite taking in the early season – I’ll have her in a reverse forecast with Wolfie.

I’ll give the nap tomorrow to Crown Prosecutor in the second at Goodwood. Brian’s horses have been running better of late and this one has a big home reputation – he is unexposed and has a finishing kick.
