A Grand National

Another poor and slightly unsatisfactory day yesterday with Bouguereau not helped by traffic problems.  I don’t agree with the Racing Post writer’s opinion that we were beaten “fair and square in third” – I’ve watched the race several times and I’d say the interference almost certainly cost us second place and it’s perfectly possible we could have got up.  I’m a little unhappy with the ride as I thought the instructions had been to make the running, which was not quite how it went.  He’ll probably go for the Horris Hill at Newbury next, which is a group 3.

The National Stakes is the big one today and it’s a very interesting race.  I can’t have Myboycharlie – all his form is on soft/heavy ground and although connections say he could be even better on firm ground his action suggests otherwise.  My Godolphin man won’t hear of defeat for Rio de la Plata, but his form is weak.  New Approach looks the srongest on paper, and I like Famous Name as an alternative.
