Catch up

I’ve been short on time and have a fair bit of catching up to do.  No runners last week but a few this week.  I’ve been to Newmarket, and the Comic Strip Heroes have bought another three yearlings (possibly four) in the sales.  The main event at the WSOPE starts today, and I’m playing in it.

Shepherd’s Warning was targeting a Beverley nursery tomorrow but doesn’t go as Nicky thinks she has a strong case for shedding a few pounds from her current handicap mark, and the race comes too soon for this.  Bouguereau will probably go for a 2yo maiden at Goodwood on Saturday, and following his fourth in a strong listed race I’d be pretty hopeful that he’ll break his duck.  Winker had a minor infection a couple of weeks ago and missed some work – he does a key piece of work tomorrow, and we’ll decide on his next engagement after this.

Tom Goff bought three colt yearlings at the Doncaster sales – two will go to Peter Chapple-Hyam and the other one will go to Ed Vaughan.  Ed has really made his mark this year and he’s a likeable and upfront guy, so we’ve added him to the CSH list of trainers.  Johnny McKeever bought one at Doncaster for Brian Meehan that we may take, but we haven’t agreed to that yet.

I’ve never played in a big poker tournament before – I line up in the WSOPE tonight, and the event runs until Sunday.  I expect to be out on my ear tonight, but maybe the poker gods will be kind to me.
